My Family
For all of the searching that have done for a community where I can live and thrive among friends, I have to admit that the community where I was born and raised was one of the best models around. To this day, the people there continue to stand by one another. No one is ever alone.
I was raised in a small town in North Carolina, where the main industry was turkey farming and where almost everyone was Southern Baptist. Needless to say, for most of my young adulthood, I could think of nothing more exciting than getting the hell out of there!
And then...I got older.
I devoted a lot of time and attention to finding a good place to live. Mainly, I wanted people to be nice! I also wanted people who could accept me for who I am, and who could support me and nurture me in what I held meaningful and true. I met a lot of wonderful people along the way, and enjoyed the places where I lived...but ultimately, there was just a little something missing. I wanted people to be more real. I wanted to know people who treated one another like they genuinely loved one another. And then, it dawned on me...I wanted to find the people who treated one another like they did back where I grew up...
